East Africa is without a doubt one of the most magical areas in Africa so much so that we have opened our own Operational offices in Tanzania. We know that the biggest highlight when travelling to East Africa is to witness the annual migration – this occurs when the wildebeest migrate in the thousands through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara National Parks. The last calculated number was just over 1.5 million wildebeest!

Wildebeest Migration

Migration Movement from January - February 2012

We have been experiencing some very unseasonal late rain here in Tanzania, particularly the Northern Circuit. We know this week that the migration is up by Ndutu forest and Naabi Gate in the Serengeti. This is fairly usual for this time of year, even though the late rain does affect their natural movements. They should be here now for the next couple of months, especially as the Plains are their preferred location to calve which should happen at the end of February. Once all the cows have calved the migration will slowly start heading towards the central areas but first towards the Moru Kopjes. Watch this space for our monthly update, coming straight from the Serengeti itself.

To view the groundbreaking movement of the migration, contact one of our friendly consultants on info@jenmansafaris.com and enjoy a spectacular trip on one of our tours, the Migration Discoverer or Wildlife Cultural Explorer, you're guaranteed good migration sightings!
